What is Import Export Code?

An Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It is required by businesses that import or export goods from India, and it is linked to the applicant's PAN.

Once issued, the code is valid for life, but the details must be kept up to date on the DGFT portal. It is also needed to claim many export incentives and to open certain foreign trade bank accounts.
